What is supported living?
Supported living is the term given by local authorities to encompass a range of services designed to help people with disabilities retain their independence in their local community. Supported living is associated with people having greater overall choice and a wider range of community activities.
What is the difference between supported housing and supported living?
In a care home, the individual’s local authority or health board is responsible for the cost of both support and accommodation. In supported living, the person is a tenant in their own home and therefore is liable to pay their own rent and other housing costs. Most of our clients are in receipt of housing benefit.
Who funds the service?
We are an approved provider on the West Sussex Provider Framework for adults with lifelong disabilities. The Framework is a contract between the local authority and providers that allows for quality assurance, compliance checks and monitoring to ensure suitability to work with WSCC, as well as ensuring the obligations of both the local authority and the provider are fulfilled. A social worker from the Lifelong services adults team will assess and establish an agreed Support Plan for each client, stating the number of hours required to support the client’s needs and the hourly rates as agreed within the Framework’s contract. Payment can be set up directly with West Sussex County Council or via Direct Payments.
Is STEPS2 registered with CQC?
As we provide personal care and administer medication, we are registered with CQC to carry on the regulated activities. Please click on this link to read our CQC report.
Will I have people I don’t know come in to support me?
No. In most cases you will have 2 or more support workers, who have all been specifically trained to support your individual needs in a way that you choose the service to be delivered. This means that when a staff member is off due to sickness or annual leave, you will receive cover from someone who already knows. To date, as a service we have never used bank staff.
Who can access our service?
We specialise in support for adults (16yrs+) with learning disabilities and Autism.
